Making good progress with creating a very complicated app for the iPhone, completely done without using the UI Builder. If there are any other iPhone programmers out there who would like to meet up occasionally and bounce off ideas on how to do this and that will be beneficial to everyone. What I do not care for much is that Apple SDK download is over 5 GB. Sheesh! I bet most of that is UI Builder related. Think nobody remembers how to make software with a smaller footprint anymore.

Just in case anyone is interested I have been comparing development in iOS, Android and Windows Mobile platforms:

http://linklens.blogspot.com/2011/01/comparing-ios-android-windows-...

I'll be including Windows Mobile 7 in my online Mobile Programming course starting next week.  There are a few spaces left.  Focus on either iOS, Android or Windows Mobile 7 for your assignments and final project, as well as hooking up with an interface designer from the parallel online Mobile Design course in order to make your mobile project both look great and simple to use!

Hi Mobile Developers,

I've just updated drafts for syllabi for both my Mobile Design and Mobile Programming Courses:

Syllabus-CSCI4702-Spring11-joseph-v1.pdf

Syllabus-MULT3610-Spring11-joseph-v1.pdf

Project work will provide the opportunity for programmers to collaborate with designers in order to create mobile applications.  The plan is to have every programmer/designer team with a paid, or ad-supported app in either the AppStore or the Android MarketPlace by the end of the course.

Hi Rico,

Full details of the HPU calendar are here:

http://www.hpu.edu/index.cfm?contentID=12475&siteID=1

but in summary the class runs from Jan 24th to May 15th, which is approximately 16 weeks.  These dates and a few more details are in the techhui event for the course:

http://www.techhui.com/events/csci-4702-mobile-programming

Please fire away with more questions :-)

I called HPU and spoke to the Special Students Admin and they verified that the course is $990- for non HPU students.

Ok, I'll check the links.

Thank you very much, Sam!

Hi Makoto,

And here is a link to the HPU tuition fees:

http://www.hpu.edu/index.cfm?section=welcome466

and I believe the mobile programming class would be $330 per credit, so that's $990 for the 3 credit class.  I still need to double check that that is precisely what special status students pay, but hopefully that gives you an idea of the approximate cost.

Hi Makoto,

If you are not already an HPU student then you need to register as a special status student. This page has information about special status at HPU:

http://www.hpu.edu/index.cfm?contentID=373

and there is an application form linked to on that page:

http://www.hpu.edu/images/Admissions/PDFs_Documents/Special_Status_...

Registration is a one off fee of $220, and I will have to check the cost of the individual classes.  I'll come back to  you on that ASAP.
