Also, I can't help but think if they just pushed out the bus tracks via GIS/GeoRSS it would be so simple to integrate the data into a wide variety of apps trivially.

Aloha Techhui, I just finished rebuilding the HEA system from TheBus with some enhancements, and would love feedback! It's certainly an alpha, but it's usable and (at least in my opinion) already offers a handful of improvements over the current HEA system. You can check it out here - http://thebus.ws.
