Tech Entrepreneurship in Hawaii

Hawaii supports a vibrant and growing community of high tech start-ups thanks in part to Act 221 and organizations like HVCA, Hawaii Angels, HiBeam, Kolohala Ventures, HTDC, HTDV and Enterprise Honolulu. As a gateway to APAC countries, Hawaii serves as an excellent launchpad for companies looking to market both to the US and growing Asian markets. Finally, military spending in the state is over $5 billion, including numerous sizable R&D projects that utilize local technology firms.

My company, Inovaware, is preparing to deploy a SaaS solution on the Microsoft Azure platform and I just spoke with the Microsoft Azure evangelist for Hawaii and he's interested in getting connected with other companies in Hawaii looking to deploy on Azure.  If you or someone you know is working on Azure let me know and I can hook you up.

Aloha Tech Entrepreneurs. We're in the middle of organizing the 2011 Hawaii Entrepreneur Pitch Competition, which this year focuses on tech and vc ready companies.

I just posted the event on the TechHui events page

Would love to get your feedback and/or participation.

NASDAQ OMX will be in Hawaii in February to talk about recents trends in IPOs and what entrepreneurs should think about on the "Road to IPO". The final round of the Pitch Competition will be held together with the NASDAQ workshop on Feb. 24.

Maui Makers is a maker space (aka hackerspace) opening on Maui. We'll help other islands as we can, but Maui is where I live so we start here.
For info on our space see (about)

Hawai'i Community Foundation is putting together an innovation fund --- I'd like to see some tech solutions --- I think this is primarily for non-profit members but let's keep on top of it ;-)
