Hmm. I got some lights to change too. Maybe our first step is to rent a big ladder for a day and change everyones lights!

Ha! I also actually need a big step ladder to do a paint job on ceiling of my lanai and change a ceiling light bulb (to an LED). Not things you do frequently. Service rentals does not have tall step ladders. It is $200 for a tall step ladder at Home Depot.

I like the NG idea a lot. It's something I'd like to do for our homeowner's association... for *precisely* the "I need a ladder" scenario described in the blog. I'll take a look at the site and maybe sign up to borrow lots of Ben's XBOX games....

NG makes total sense as shipping is expensive plus limited places to buy special or unique tools. The issue of people of returning items is simple- they leave a deposit for no less than what it would cost for the item holder to go buy one. Then, the onus is on the borrower to get their deposit back vs. the lender to hunt them down and get their item back. Also, checkers now rents automotive tools but there was nothing to speak of before as they never got returned so companies stopped renting tools out.

I was just raving about this as well. Like any network, you need critical mass. I signed up!

PC issues fixed. Laser back online - check MauiMakers.com blog for updates and pictures.
Today a friend of mine blogged about https://neighborgoods.net/ which is a site people can register on to share goods - like a big ladder you need once every long while. There is the issue of people returning stuff of course. Not sure how they deal with that. I'm curious about the maui folks view of this, especially how it would work with a community that knows each other outside the web service. Would people take advantage of it - using but not contributing? taking and not returning or being responsible? liabilities of loaning your equipment?
Original blog talking about it was http://blog.seanbonner.com/2010/07/01/why-neighborgoods-matters/

Help!!! my new acer laptop refuses to boot. I need a PC to run the laser. Does anyone have recommendations for local stores on Maui for a decent Win7 desktop? Costco has some HP boxes and their warrantee + 90day return is attractive. Alternatively If someone has a machine I can borrow for this week ...
Mahalo!
