I have arranged participation with the MIT Enterprise Forum taking place in Boston this Tuesday 9/21 from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the Maui Research & Tech Center. Topic is "Lab to Market is Not Final, Failure is Not Fatal" See http://enterpriseforum.mit.edu/network/broadcasts/201009/index.html for details and also let me know if you can come in the Event area here.
As many of you know I have been a fan of the MIT Enterprise Forum process and it is great that they are being inclusive this way. The deal is they want participants to come out of their cocoons so you can only view in a group. Do come, we will have fresh coffee and hot water for tea.

DIWO = Do It WIth Others
in contrast to DIY = Do It Yourself
and HAP = Hire A Professional
and BICOTS = Buy It Off The Shelf

For those interested in embedded, but not experienced (eg me), the Arduino provides a gentle intro. CreativeLive and O'Reilly are currently offering a free online class tuesdays at noon maui time (http://creativelive.com/courses/arduino/). When my stuff gets setup, I'll be exploring more. Anyone else up for some DIWO hands on learning?
A more bare bones (advanced/deeper) approach is the ARM Cortex M3. AdaFruit just announced a new dev/experimenters board that looks pretty cool...
We've talked a few times about embedded products, talked last night about water monitoring. These folks have been doing home automation for a very long time.
