We had a wonderful Thanksgiving at my home, Sugar Ranch (http://www.sugarranchmaui.com) with fellow techies Garrett Lisi and Les Vogel. Garett, Les, and I hope to organize a holiday party for us Maui techies at Sugar Ranch. Garrett is especially keen on us getting a fresh ahi for sashimi! We definitely want to arrange a get together while Les is back in town.

Vince Mina will talk about the economics of running a small farm as well as provide an update on the Maui Farmers Union which averages 150+ people at its monthly gatherings looking at food system issues.
I will provide an update of the HI Community Exchange project (http://H-CX) and David LeFevre will introduce http://theunitedfieldcorporation.com which is launching in ten communities around the U.S.
If there is interest we will bring this back as a regular event. Forums in '08 and '09 were successful in multiple ways. See http://CoolProjectsMaui.com and click on Venture Forums to see info including video of presentations.

Yup, saw your post this morning! Details for the Maui RFI info session were just released this morning and similarly the Eventbrite RSVP site was just updated to reflect this new info. Hopefully there will be a good showing on Thursday! Yes, you are correct David, it does operate more closely to an RFP.
All - Please RSVP (http://lava.eventbrite.com) by Tuesday, July 17th if you are interested in applying!
I was hoping you would catch this and add details, like how to sign up. BTW, the term RFI is a bit misleading. My understanding is that RFI means Request for Information and is normally a form of market research leading to the development of a request for proposals (RFP). What we have here is what I would call an RFP. It looks like there is a requirement for a 100% funding match.
Thanks David! To clarify this info session to be held next Thursday is for those who are interested in developing/operating an accelerator and wish to apply for the RFI.
For more info and to RSVP visit: http://lava.eventbrite.com
As you may have read, the HI Legislature is looking to invest $2 million in new incubator/accelerator programs. Karl Fooks from the HI Strategic Development Corporation is overseeing the use of this money and he is doing an information session next Thursday, July 19th at 1 p.m. This will probably be by phone or Webex, although if there are enough interested people he might fly over and probably do it at the Maui tech park. I am attaching HSDC LAVA Program RFI 2012.pdf which provides more background.
