Dan, 

The event page here says there are labs on Friday and 75min sessions and an Ignite and and and, but aside from the 9-5 time on saturday there is no mention of schedule, or other listing of labs, etc.  Is there another web site for the conference that gives more detail? Expected speakers?  Is the Ignite one of the 75min sessions, or an evening post-conference event? (drinking is part of the Ignite culture I understand)

If Mauian TechHuians want to meet there is a robata grill called Tsukuneya right across the street. If you guys want to meet after the conference I'm happy to join you.

Are any MauiTechies going to the TechHui Conference Sat Dec 10th?

Our Garrett Lisi will be the keynote speaker.  I'm wondering what sort of one-day schedule locals plan for a 9-5 event on Oahu.

Yes, the bGeigie or "bento" geiger counter system, in that it fits in to a bento sized box.  The reporter did not know what a "bento" was.  We, of course, in HI do, since we see them daily at our local convenience stores.

Cool... BoingBoing just posted a link too.  Sean Bonner, one of the people in the interview, is a friend of mine and co-founder of Crashspace (Los Angeles Makerspace).  Today Sean also announced the Safecast bGeigie World Tour (on Make and Crashspace blog).

 

 The plan is, one bGeigie will make it’s way around the country, from hackerspace to hackerspace, measuring and mapping all the way. For a hackerspace to participate, the agreement would be to drive the device around your city taking a ton of readings, uploading the data to Safecast, and then physically driving (taking readings along the way) the bGeigie to the next closest participant.

I volunteered to drive it around Maui and I'm sure the Hi-Cap guys would do for Oahu too ... they already hooked in with Safecast to do some coding.

Great story on PBSNewsHour doing crowd sourced science collecting radiation (democratizing science).  Interviews with hardware designer/manufacturer Maui resident Dan Sythe (who I had the pleasure of having lunch with at the Bioneers Conference) and new MIT Lab Director Joi Ito.  

I knew Joi back in the mid 80's when we were both on the MetaNetwork, one of the first, pre-web, online social networks.   Joi was based out of Honolulu for a short while circa 1989.  When I arrived in HI, he was leaving for Japan where he began activity as a venture capitalist.

Back from a week in the Bay Area.  On the techie front saw Amory Lovins speak on his new book "Reinventing Fire - Business Solutions for the Green Energy Era" where he makes the business/economic case for his design approaches.

Also visited Maui Tech Hui emeritus Les Vogel at Google in Mountain View (I had forgotten that they are also famous for their cafeteria food) with Maui Maker Mike Drescher.   We both also dropped in on Hacker Dojo as per Doug Nelson's suggestion.

How did the co-working conversation go last Thursday?
