Thanks Gus. I want to tour a local game studio to see if there are clear distinctions between the programmers and the designers. Do they even hang out together? I'm trying to determine where my talents in illustration and programming would serve me best. I know I have the skills, I just don't know where to focus my efforts. Can anyone involved in professional game development offer me any advice? Should I continue building indie games or should I find employment as a tester/programmer and work my way up in a large organization?

I know of one, a big one. Avater Reality, Blue Mars. They are currently working on a Second Life type of game.
