Fox,

FYI, JET isn't exclusively English teaching positions. I have a friend who is a graphic designer and JET placed him in a job in his field. Opportunities like this are open to people who already have some command of the language. Anyway, best of luck to you!

Thanks guys for your advice!
Actually I had a job offer before I went to Tokyo last April but, due to the bad economy the company had to layoff almost 100 people. After that I had no job offer anymore. Really bad luck there. Now I am back in Hawaii working as a System Admin/engineer for a SaaS company. I have definitely tried the headhunters in Tokyo but they were little help as there was really no jobs when I went. I know everyone says to take the English teaching route, but i really find that to be the easy way out. If I commit to a company it is because I want to work happily for them and not just use them for a visa or money. Perhaps I am naive. I guess for now I all i can try is the recruiting companies. I am still updating my resume, but I have experience in a very wide scope of IT.

Not sure what kind of 職歴 you have, but you may want to try the bilingual headhunters in Tokyo. A friend of mine runs NinePoint - you might want to try him. I know you probably don't want to do the 英会話先生 thing, but it could be a foot in the door for you to get over there.

Fox,

JET seems to be a good foot in the door option for a lot of people. If you haven't already, you should give them a look:

Good luck -- hope things work out for you.

Good luck, Fox! Maybe you should mention what kind of work you're looking for and a link to your resume?
