TopCoder Software Engineering Competition

Exciting news! The University of Hawaii Information and Computer Sciences Department is putting on a coding competition (see http://www.ics.hawaii.edu/news/department-of-information-and-computer...). This is great news and should be a really fun experience for the students. To help the ICS department we have decided to do two things. 1) form an ICS alumni association 2) lead the organization and planning to support the coding competition by providing mentors and prizes for the students. (To be… Continue

Hello Aaron,
Thanks for the welcome. It is nice to be here. I see that you use Flash/Flex. I am thinking about starting to use Flex, and I know very little about it at this point. I had heard that with Flex 2 that some applications had memory leak problems. I also read that with Flex 3, that memory leaks were not a big problem. Has this been your experience? If there are any good web sites with Flex tutorials or books that you find useful, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Hi Aaron, thanks for the greeting! Good question. Non-profits aren’t generally a good fit for the Manoa Innovation Center incubation program. Basically to qualify companies need to prove that they have a leading edge product or innovation that is feasible yet with acceptable risk. Feel free to check out our website for more info on the program, qualifications, and if you’d like to even download an application!

Aloha Aaron, sorry its taken me a lonnnngggg time to reply, I've been on and off the island quite a bit these last few weeks. We're not all copy machines and as a matter of fact, we've been successful in the printer market software, and consulting or managed services. Did you know that Xerox manages Microsoft's worldwide printer fleet of over 700 Xerox devices and approx 200 non-Xerox devices. We'll monitor the fleet, maintain supplies, and provide help desk services to both Xerox and non-Xerox equipment. Did you know Xerox sells its own branded HP toner?

Trying to cut down on physical output? Save paper? Cut costs? We've got software solutions such as Docushare that allows an enterprise to manage their docs online, provide version control, and a whole lot of other bells and whistles that allow companies to effectively manage their documents online thus reducing paper usage.

As far as the business model, its a little tough to elaborate on a simple level. Xerox is huge and each solution that's proposed for a client is unique. But, like buying a car you can bet that its the extras that are offered that usually make up the revenue ie financing, supplies, different options, and service.
