Hi everyone! I see there is some talk about co-working space in Maui. At the Maui Research and Technology Center in Kihei we do have a very small co-working space for tech-startup companies. We call this program the Virtual Incubation Program (VIP). From what I understand however perhaps Kihei may not be the ideal place for co-working space vs. something more central like Kahului or Wailuku. For more information on our program you can visit our website at: http://www.htdc.org/programsservices/incubation_virtual.html, or you can contact me at sandi@htdc.org, (808) 539-3616.

I would be very interested in a coworking space that was centrally located and accessible by bike. Also joining in on the conversation of next steps. Talked to Tommy Russo briefly about this a few months ago and would love to continue towards that goal.

You know, this article did a good job of laying out the "next steps." I am contacting a colleague at Oceanic Business Class to get them involved in the conversation. I would love to see them support a startup coworking space with robust wifi included as they to o would be a direct beneficiary of this type of biz growth on Maui.

Is it possible to do this other than thursday Oct 6?

That is the night King Kekaulike Robotics Club is having its fundraising showing of the documentary "Bots High".  We are just started the PR push, with the VEX Competition coming up this saturday at the Maui Faire.

Info on this event is at http://www.mauimakers.com/blog/botshigh/

The "Bots High" showing is preempting the usual Thursday night Maui Makers meeting (6-9pm).

I'd also be interested in any other night besides Thursday.

Hey Jerry & Keith - You can post the event in the TechHui Event Calendar to create more visibility and turn off RSVP to avoid people RSVPing in multiple places. Using the calendar here has the significant advantage of helping to avoid conflicts with other Hawaii tech events. Also, that makes it easier for us to help by featuring it, linking it in the newsletter, etc. Aloha, Mika.

Hi everyone,

Several of us who have expressed an interest in Maui co-working are getting together on Thursday, Oct. 13 to brainstorm ideas, gather input, and explore possibilities. While the event is taking place in Kihei, and MRTC is hosting, I want to stress that our goal is to come up with a coordinated set of spaces in different parts of the island. Organizations with potential space in Kahului, up-country, and Lahaina are participating in the discussion.

Even if you're not ready to sign up for space at this point, if co-working is something that intrigues you I'll encourage you to come out and join the discussion. We're just getting started, and figuring out where the demand is and what it looks like is an important part of moving forward.
