Anyone in Hawaii doing development on top of Twitter's APIs?

Just curious. I wanted to talk to someone about what's involved in building something out that piggybacks on microblogging networks. For reference, see www.stocktwits.com. Happy holidays!

Sorry for the delay, had a major hiccup. Would love to speak to some of you folks about building out a simple app and what it might cost. I am not a coder. Thanks!

FYI, the blogs have been abuzz about Twitter's APIs, and building businesses upon Twitter.

Chris Cummer has a rather harsh but sobering opinion against building a business upon Twitter:

We've recently built an open source application on top of Hackystat that supports, among other things, "auto-tweeting" summaries of developer activities. The application is called Tickertape and the Twitter component is part of a larger effort to understand mixed initiative (agent and human) coordination for software develo....

I would also be interested in speaking about Twitter mashups, started writing a few simple apps from their REST API

The REST APIs appeared to be closer. If anyone has any interest in collaborating on the tech side, would love to chat. I have ideas for the business / marketing side.

Yes. They have good REST APIs that are easy to use.

There's a summary of what data is available from Twitter's developer blog.

It sounds like the firehose is coming soon, but it's not quite ready yet. For a popular service, consuming the firehose might be useful, but for smaller services it probably won't be worth the trouble.

Thanks, Jesse: I am not sure if the Search API is the right focus but its close. I am looking to do a combined project that includes aggregation of a specific type of commercial tweets posted by a specific type of business in a timely fashion. It would also need to allow followers to set a calendar for their following period so it will automatically turn off after a specific number of days (probably not mandatory but would be nice to have).

If you're looking to build something like stocktwits, the approach would probably be to query Twitter's Search API. Like everything else about Twitter, the API is very simple - anybody who can work with AJAX shouldn't have a problem with it.
