About SBIR and STTR

The SBIR and STTR programs are designed to facilitate the funding of research and development by small businesses for departments of the federal government including the DoD, NASA, NSF, DoT, DoE and others. These programs award $2.2 billion in funds to small businesses annually. SBIR awards go to companies while STTR awards go to companies working in cooperation with a research institution such as the University of Hawai‘i.

In Hawaii, HTDC provides additional assistance by providing up to $25,000 in matching funds for SBIR awards. The purpose of this matching program is to make Hawaii companies more competitive in winning Phase II awards and to accelerate commercialization. More on HTDC's Hawaii SBIR

This group is intended to facilitate conversation about the SBIR and STTR programs and to help interested Hawaii-based companies get answers to their questions from HTDC employees and more experienced companies that have been through the process.
