Update: Unconferenz will be held on Saturday, Feb 26, 2011 at Windward Community College

It's good to see all of you joining the Unconferenz in TechHui. Though the Unconferenz 2011 is still a ways off (planned date in Feb 2011), it's never too late to start the dialog on session topics. Let me know what piques your interest and post it here. The tech is constantly changing which makes for an exciting 2011. Mahalo!

I'd love to see a Gov 2.0 session. There's so much room in Hawaii for technology to improve the way government works.

I'd love a Government 2.0 session too, disclaimer I work for the company behind ehawaii.gov and a number of related sites for the state; but aside from that I'm also very interested in the government transparency through technology that we're seeing from states like New York and Oregon.
Great ideas being proposed. I like the Gov. 2.0 topic. Maybe we can get some folks from the Abercrombie administration to join in the discussion.
that would be perfect. Folks from Grassroots Institute just released a http://hawaiisunshine.org/, a transparency site. Perhaps a panel with Abercrombie folks, Paul's company, Grassroots, etc might be really fun.

I'd love to talk about
- social CRM
- geo Location, and how its being used in Hawaii
- a discussion on what we can do to build a strong tech hub in Honolulu.
Hey guys hope you don't mind if I make some suggestions and ideas that I think may spark conversation and gauge interest.
Deep Tech
  • Node JS - Server Side JS
  • Databases - The NoSQL movement (versus Relational Databases)

Evangelism

  • TDD - Test Driven Development - Double the cost? What are the Benefits.
  • Lean Startups - What is customer development?
  • Ramen Profitability (Prototyping before looking for $)

Accessible Topics

  • HTML 5 and CSS3

Mobile

  • Mobile Development - Native vs. Platform (Titanium Appcelerator, Sencha Touch, PhoneGap, jquery mobile), Building vs. Outsourcing, iPhone vs Android, iPad vs Tablets
  • Future of Mobile? Android is currently outpacing iPhone activations. With Windows Mobile on the horizon could it unseat Blackberry or will RIM's OS 6 and Pad keep them relevant
  • Location Based Services -- (HTML5, Google)
  • Push Notifications - UrbanAirship, Twil.io

Maybe even provide a Project Showcase and short user-testing, hack session?

  • Chrome appstore
  • Google app engine
  • Micropayments
  • Robotics

If anyone is interested, I would be more than willing to willing to talk about the global game jam (http://globalgamejam.org/), and show of the wonderful and really experimental games that are made there, many of which defy the standard terminology for what a game is.

Hey cool tip, John!  Never knew about Moderator before. It's kinda bare bones but I like.

Hi Burt,

Please consider using Google Moderator for Unconferenz 2011. It provides submitting of Topics and Ideas as well as allowing others to "Vote" on the submitted topics and ideas.

Cheers,

John

Keeping it GEO:

  • Geolocation
  • GIS
  • Geosocial (like Rob said below)

I set something up on Google Moderator at http://bit.ly/hWpTYw for people to submit and vote on ideas. Please let me know what you think.

Thanks,

Burt
