1) It's important to plan your fitness goals. Write down your objective goals, and the timeframe in which you plan to accomplish them by.

Specific
Measurable
Attainable
Realistic
Timely

2) Then set up a basic program. How much time do you have each week for working out? If I'm busy, I like to workout 2-4 days a week. If I have more free time, then I will work out 5-6 times a week.

3) Schedule in your workout. Think about a time in which you will be more likely to workout. If you aren't a morning person, then perhaps set your workout time when it works best for you.

4) Eat regularly. I try to eat every three hours, generally a protein, a carbohydrate and a healthy fat. Drink lot's of water to flush your body of toxins, and facilitate cellular processes.

5) Lift weights.. It's good for your body and metabolism to lift heavy weights. Just be sure you have done your research or have consulted with a trainer to ensure you are exercising with correct form. Keeping a journal to track your lifting progress and try to push past previous lifted weight thresholds.

6) Get sleep. Your body needs to have approximately 8 hrs of sleep per night to repair itself. This is important for your quality of life, but it's also important if your trying to build muscle for a shapely body. If you over train, or lack adequate sleep, you will not see the results as quickly.

7) Be organized. Buy your foods and do your cooking on regularly scheduled days, generally in advance. Cook extra food, and pack your lunches the night before. Invest in a good cooler bag, so you have your own, healthy, portioned food on hand. You'll feel great, not to mention you can eat your own yummy food whenever you want, and you'll save lot's of $$$.

8) Consistency. You must be consistent with healthy eating and exercise before you will see any results. Some people choose to eat clean through out the week, and allow themselves to eat a few "treats" on the weekends. Once the weekend is over, it's straight back to clean eating.

9) Focus on your positive efforts. Notice and be proud of the efforts you are making. Don't get discouraged if things don't go as expected. It's alright to make mistakes, or have a treat now and then, just get back on track making healthy decisions again.

10) Notice how good you feel. Working out releases endorphins, which leave you feeling good after a workout. Notice how great you feel afterwards, and how you love to workout. Notice how good you feel by the healthy foods you eat. Notice how great you feel when you take care of yourself!! When you take care of yourself, you feel better about yourself, which makes you more enjoyable to be around. ;-)

I highly suggest the blog of Stefan Pinto at http://pintofactory.com/stefanpinto.

It's a bit overcharged with photos and videos (it works also as his model/actor portfolio) but he's a true follower of his own advice and I had the pleasure of meeting him during my marketing days in Miami. His story is very true and he provides really down-to-earth advice about dieting, fitness, and exercise.

A sample post that I like is: http://pintofactory.com/stefanpinto/?p=881
