Hello all,
I'm an electrical engineer. I've worked in various hardware and software design positions for the last 20 years. My main interest is research and development of assistive technologies. I'm currently working for a company that's developing a mobile technology for people with PTSD and/or TBI. Very interested in STEM education and programs for children and youth here in Hawaii. I work a tiny while each week at the Hawaii Childrens Discovery Center for fun and also to support play based education in our community. Interested in sustainability issues and the environment. I have 3 children and 3 grandchildren.

Hi all,

I'm an editor with Manning Publications (http://www.manning.com), a writer, photographer, web programmer, instructor (primarily database design these days), and probably a few other things I can't quite remember just now. I'm interested in technology and the future, film and literature, education (especially getting kids in Hawaii interested in tech careers), sustainable development, and basically anything that thoughtfully builds the future. I have no pets/spouse/offspring. I live in Honolulu.

Hello Ladies! Love the idea of this group! Thank you so much for the invite :)

I work as the VP of Customer Care at Superb Internet Corp (headquarters in Honolulu, HI). Essentially making sure all the customer-facing departments provide the highest level of service and customer care possible. I have extensive experience in technical support and customer service quality assurance, call center management, project management, as well as coaching and staff development. I have a degree in Civil Engineering, a Diploma of Technology Management from the British Columbia Institute of Technology, as well as numerous IT certificates (to name couple MCSE, CCNA, A++).

I joined the company nine years ago as a the front line technical support representative, and gradually worked my way up. It's been quite a journey (to say the least) and I'm only getting started ;-)

My favorite quote: "We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit."
- Aristotle

Thanks again!

Aloha Ladies,

like most of you I have mainly had male colleagues throughout my tech-journey, and I appreciate this opportunity to connect with like-minded women :)

I am an interdisciplinary PhD candidate in Communication and Information Sciences at University of Hawaii at Manoa, where I also teach organizational communication with a focus on new communication tools and technologies. My research areas include socio-technical systems (aka social media), human computer interaction, computer mediated communication, computer supported collaborative learning, and virtual organizations.
For more than a decade I have been involved in most aspects of systems design, development, and evaluation; and I do consulting on technology and policy planning, design, implementation, and evaluation for communication, collaboration, and learning.

I live in Honolulu, but I'm originally from Norway. Hawaii is somewhat warmer ;)

Hey all, this is just an observation, but I noticed that in this small sample of women that we tend towards "planning" and "connecting". I wonder if this holds true for women in tech in general. What do you think?
Aloha!

I work Sys\Net Admin and Help Desk. I find solving problems extremely gratifying. The first quote I prefer to share is:

"For a list of all the ways technology has failed to improve the quality of life, please press three.
Alice Kahn "

But then - you were after INSPIRING!! - OK, how about this:

"Happiness is essentially a state of going somewhere, wholeheartedly, one-directionally, without regret or reservation." William H. Sheldon
"The task of leadership is not to put greatness into humanity, but to elicit it, for the greatness is already there." (John Buchan)

I live on O'ahu and serve Kapi'olani Community College as an Asst. Professor of Information Technology and Coordinator for the Center for Excellence in Learning, Teaching and Technology. I am passionate about careful stewardship of my campus' technology resources and live to teach others how to foster student engagement through the thoughtful use of technology.
Aloha,
I'm a retired KCC instructor who is working part-time in distance learning instructional support at Kamehameha Schools, My interest is, an reallly has been, helping people learn to use their basic computer software products for fun and productivity. I have no mobile device except for my car which I drive. But I know I need to learn and learn soon what can be done while unplugged.

My favorite quote tells you why my life is so chaotic.

"If it weren't for the last minute, a lot of good things wouldn't get done". Unknown.
Hello Techie Ladies,

I'm originally from Izumo, Japan. My journey to Hawaii was Izumo -> Tokyo -> Miami -> NYC -> Tokyo -> London -> NYC -> Honolulu. Its been a crazy journey :-) I work at Ikayzo as the COO, systems administrator, Japanese localization engineer and office manager in Honolulu. I like snorkeling, traveling, French film, working with Linux and reading. My favorite author is Haruki Murakami. I hear he sometimes visits Manoa, but I still haven't seen him :-)

Favorite Quote:
"By three methods we may learn wisdom: First, by reflection, which is noblest; Second, by imitation, which is easiest; and third by experience, which is the bitterest. " - Confucius

Aloha,

My name is Sunny, and I've been a computer programmer/web developer  for last 10 years and just got my degree in statistics.  My interest is math, data, programming and learning something new and interesting, and helping people.  I am glad to see and be connected with other female tech people.

I used to have two dogs (of my own), and after a bitter custody battle among three sisters, and each took one dog.  so no dog for me now.

Judy already used my favorite quote from the Little Prince.

The second favorite quote of mine is by Pancake.  "F*** Waffle"

I worked for a utility (background as an engineer and programmer) and noticed that the tall men were the ones getting promoted. They all played basketball together.  Since I knew it was impossible for me to get taller, I decided a better course of action was to start my own company and promote myself.  I recommend this course to anyone with a similar situation. :-)

Oh wait!  I forgot my favorite quote:

If it is worth doing, it is worth OVERdoing!

:-)
