RAM and Computer Power Supplies needed... DESPERATELY
Aloha All.
Does anyone have any extra P4 style power supplies that they are willing to part with and donate ?
We are finding that roughly 30% of the computers we are getting as donations have burnt out power supplies. I have about 50 computers right now sitting on our shelves that the only thing they need is a power supply.
Also, we could use a lot of RAM. 256 Meg chips and larger of just about every style... especially the older style (133, etc)
I'm even willing to swap some parts, monitors, office chairs (NICE), services, web hosting.........
Please contact me ASAP if you have anything as we are trying to get as many computer out the door by Christmas as we can.

Do you maintain an ongoing, organic wish-list of parts?
I'm always coming across surplus hardware deals, as it's a hobby of mine. For example, Xbox upgrade shops were practically giving away nearly-pristine 8Gig and 10Gig hard drive pulls a little over a year ago. If you set up a blog to maintain such a list (with RSS feed), I'd be happy to comment with relevant sites where generous donors can buy the parts you need on the cheap. While I haven't been looking for 'em, I'm sure PC-133 RAM can be found as clearance items, if not in bulk lots on ebay.
You might also be able to get a group of donors to chip in on a Bulk-Purchase at NewEgg or ZipZoomFly for a case of hard-drives or power supplies.
I'll be in touch later this week -- I know I've got a fair quantity of PC-133 RAM lying around, as I just decomissioned my old Dual-P3 server earlier this year.

No ongoing (always updated) wish list as its really pretty static. Most computers are donated because they are not working... not working because the power supply burnt out. Its a huge percentage of our inbound hardware. Also, many people will donate the computer but keep the RAM and drives.. So we are always running short.
Actually.. we are pretty good on most other items. At one point we were asking for hard drives, then we had 2 large donations come in. One from Oceanic, the other from Steve (a regular contributor to our cause). THANKS GUYS !!!
I am attaching an updated "Donate your computer" sheet that has some info of our special needs on it at the bottom. For the past 8 months its basically RAM and power supplies. About 75 machines total waiting for those parts.
Items that would help us in offing complete installations for non profits are network switches and cabling. Right now its about the only thing we don't have any inventory of. (love to get a few 1,000' boxes of cat5e .) I think we have two - 16 port switches here and that's it, those will disappear next week at our next installation. - Attachments:

If something like this $15 PSU at Tiger Direct could fit your bill, I'd be happy to order/donate 20 units. Not sure if they'd make it in time for Christmas, but we can try!

Wow... cool that would rock !
Yes, those are the ones. its that 4 pin 12 volt connector that we need.
That will work with many of our cases. It will not fit in the DELL computers though. They only have the space for the plug, no holes for switches or lights.

Yeah, DELLs are problematic with respect to power supplies. Not just the non-standard cutouts for the power plug and switch, either -- a lot of their system motherboards also require power via a non-standard 6-pin plug. Only viable surplus sources I can think of to find suitable parts would be Weird Stuff Warehouse, or Ebay.

Your my hero for today !
I don't think you realize how important this is to us. Over the weekend we were working on computers. We refurbished and reinstalled 18 machines I think. It was really frustrating to pick up and just move around and re-arrange so many computers that are missing such basic parts that we can not get them done.
This will not only help us to get 20 computers out the door, and help clear shelves of needed space.... But go to the main point of getting them into the hands of people that are no way normally able to afford to buy a computer. (they have it hard enough to pay rent)
Your about to make Christmas presents for 20 people/ families very different and profound this year.

Hi Dan !
I just awarded Laurence my "hero for the day" award....
I guess I need to make you my hero for tomorrow.
Creating a page on TechHui for us to post our needs and wish list would be fantastic.
I keep saying that I am going to build our website and get it all updated... but like the old saying goes... "everyone in town has shoes except for the shoe makers kids." (literally, my great grandfather made shoes - my mom said kids in the family ran around barefoot) We are so busy working on everyone else's tech needs that we often do not get to our own.
You building a page for us would help us to put it all in sight of people that can have a positive impact into our work.
I keep hearing all these people (politicians, etc...) talk about "investing into our future." You guys helping us get computers into the hands of people that need them the most, I think presents one of the best investments anyone can make. Think about it. Getting parents more tech experience so they can get better jobs and keeping kids busy learning and not bored hanging out on the streets, has got to be one of the best long term investments that can be made, economically or socially.
Your continued support of our efforts is ultimately priceless.

I would like to make an announcement of incredible praise to Lawrence Lee. Lawrence responded to this post I made pleading for power supplies. Lawrence purchased 20 power supplies and delivered them to our offices December 23rd. MERRY CHRISTMAS ! Several of the units were used immediately and got computers up and running for delivery Christmas eve and Christmas day.
With this single act, it allows us to refurbish 20 computers.
One person decided to make a difference, and the impact is exponential.
This is what our slogan represents : "Demonstrate the Power of ONE"
