TechHui

Hawaiʻi's Technology Community

The 2nd annual Hawaii Geek Meet is nine days away! As geek gatherings go, this one prides itself on getting geeks outdoors. We're geeks in Hawaii, after all! It's also family friendly... contrary to popular belief, geeks do reproduce! Like TechHui and Manoa Geeks, the Hawaii Geek Meet is an all-inclusive event. Whether you're a coder or a circuit builder, a designer or a ham radio operator, we want you. Catch up with old friends and learn new things about other people's passions!

It's a potluck picnic at a beach park, so bring your families, blankets, sports-related projectiles and sunscreen! And definitely bring your tools, gadgets, and toys to show and tell. I'd love to see a TechHui contingent... even a TechHui tent. The recent downtown mixer is proof that this group can take its online energy and bring it into the "real world." The Hawaii Geek Meet was made for you!

If you're coming to fly the TechHui flag, please comment and share what you're bringing (not everyone can bring Zippy's chili). Feel free to also RSVP on the TechHui Event page.

We will be there with a healthy amount of official TechHui mac salad.
If you came to the last Manoa Geeks, you may have seen Tony Barnhill demonstrate some of his maker projects, like turning Altoid mint tins into iPod chargers. Well, he's going to be bringing some of his projects and tools to the Hawaii Geek Meet, and will even have a cheap kit available for purchase if you want to sit down and build something right there in the park! Whether you want to tinker with wires or not, I hope you'll join us this Sunday!
It's tomorrow! Hopefully there'll be many new faces, thanks to a great front-page tease and a big Island Life spread in today's Honolulu Advertiser.. Also got word of a couple of special guests: Sunni Brown, a "visual recorder" who rocked SXSW, and Roz Savage, who's in the midst of a solo trans-Pacific row.

It's a potluck, so bring what you can... but thanks to Zippy's, Therapy Sports Grill (Koko Marina) and Lava.Net, we'll have some famous chili, poke edamame and chicken, and of course pizza on the menu. There are vegetarians coming too, though!

A 20 percent chance of grey skies, but a 100 percent chance you'll meet some of the most interesting people in Honolulu. See you there!
