Featured Techie: Social Media Guru Roxanne Darling

Local social media celebrity
Roxanne Darling introduced many of us to the world of
podcasting. The first podcast I watched was an early episode of
Beach Walks with Rox, now a popular show with over 700 episodes. Roxanne's energetic, thoughtful and well articulated treatment of subjects, which range from healthy living to the web's effect on the English language, always makes for interesting viewing. Through events such as
Podcamp + Wordcamp Hawaii, Rox and her partner,
Shane Robinson, have contributed greatly to the education of our community with regard to the use of social media in business, politics and education. It is with great pleasure that I introduce my valued friend, Roxanne Darling, as February's Featured Techie.

Bio

Co-owner of Bare Feet Studios, Roxanne has been working on the web since 1995. She is also one of the original video podcasters and the star of the award-winning internet TV show,
Beach Walks with Rox, where she braves bikinis and the winds of Kailua. The show currently has over 700 episodes, viewers in over 70 countries and numerous awards. Recently cited as #24 on the Top 50 Women in Social Media, Roxanne is a founding member of the Social Media Club and is currently launching the Hawaii chapter. Roxanne and her partner Shane Robinson's work has been featured in several recent books: "Web Video: Making it Great, Getting it Noticed"; "Social Media Marketing: An Hour a Day"; and "Leap: Ditch Your Job, Start Your Own Business, and Set Yourself Free". She excels at creating online video strategy for business, ranging from episodic shows to on-the-fly live-streaming. You can find her just about anywhere on the web! Roxanne also has over 20 years experience as an expert presenter and trainer throughout North America, Asia, and Europe. She educates and inspires while translating complex technology jargon into easy-to-grasp concepts. A popular speaker in the tech and business communities, including BlogHer Business, Blog World Expo, Podcamp, IABC, and PRSA, Roxanne is as effective with small intimate groups though has presented to audiences of over 1500 people. She has a "gift for both grounding and lifting you at the same time." She is the founder of Podcamp + Wordcamp Hawaii, which attracted over 400 attendees and whose tag (pch08) made it to #2 on both Twitter and Flickr.


Roxanne lives at the bleeding edge of new technology, is comfortable working in disruptive marketplaces, and is a passionate translator of complex new concepts into easy-to-understand and implement strategies. Her many years as a coach for Johnson & Johnson and as an international trainer enable her to connect with diverse audiences and to help her business clients use the internet in personalized, tech- and business-savvy ways.
