@Rob --- I thought that the layering effect was a bit much, and there's still more of a learning curve than Wordpress.com, but in all, it's a good intro to helping a new person get started and/or do a micro site and/or build the site then export it to their own hosting.

For E-commerce, we've had pretty good luck with Ubercart-- where one owner of the site can sell multiple items, both physical and downloadable, as well as membership upgrades.

I am now doing some research into a multi-user marketplace through Ubercart, as well, which would allow multiple members to sell their own items through a shared catalog of products.

Drupal Gardens is brand new and is a *hosted* solution for Drupal 7.x. basically like Wordpress.com or blogspot.com ----> but a Drupal version. http://www.drupalgardens.com/ it should be free through the end of next year, so you can set up a free account and test it out here.

I'm @monicadear on the Drupal website, and I am very open to connecting with anyone who has questions on easiest ways to ramp up development and/or get started with modules.

I highly recommend the Acquia distribution of modules, this is basically a grouped set of the latest modules that are specific to social networking http://www.acquia.com

Hi everyone --- I wanted to introduce myself as Drupal is a big specialty of mine and a tool that I think would be excellent for nonprofits, small business, and membership groups. I've started a website specific to Drupal in Hawaii (http://www.drupalhawaii.com) but would love to start/hear discussions here.

I'd would if I lived in Honolulu. :) I'm no expert but I've just completed my first Drupal project and I'd be happy to share what I know. You can email me if you like.
