I just read an article titled "
shyness in Japan's online social and online social scene challenges...", which made me think of to what degree there is a need for supporting cultural differences, beyond languages and look and feel, in features of international social network sites.
On one hand the one-size-fits-all approach is simpler and can be argued to support a "global internet culture" and better support interactions across cultural boundaries, on the other hand there are a lot of differences in cultural norms when it comes to socializing and catering more for them might increase recruitment and usage.
What are your thoughts on this?
