.NET Developer Needed for Student Review Panel
Kalani high school is piloting a Senior Project program this year for 26 students. These students have created a software application project using .NET technology. As part of the program they each will have to do a formal oral presentation. We are looking for an industry professional to be part of the review panel.
Panelist will need to be available from 9am to 1pm. The presentations will be at the Manoa Innovation Center on May 29th, 2009.

It was absolutely amazing to see what these students have picked up within the course of a school year.
The production of a complete end-to-end solution that meets a Real World need is no small task -- especially with ASP.NET. I'm delighted to hear that some of these projects will go (or remain) Live in production in the near future. Well done, these kids have an edge over many already doing .NET code.
One disturbing common theme amongst these presentations is the Lack of Mentors to guide them through the development process, and help them when they get stuck. (Seriously -- only 1 teacher to answer the questions of 30 students?) Hopefully the Tech Community Tithe can make its presence known in an effort to guide the next set of students. -

I was also impressed with these kids. Kids senior projects will roll out to over 4000 high school students next year - we're going to need a lot of mentors! And it doesn't have to be heavy-duty mentoring - just being there to answer questions will help.

This seems like a great program. We are going to participate as part of our Tech Community Tithe. I wonder if .NET is a constant in HI high schools or if they teach other software stacks as well.

Wow that is impressive. I am a Kalani '05 alumni and when I went back to visit two years ago, my teachers told me that the tech department got canceled. Did they re-establish it and teach them to create a software with .NET in one year? That would just be amazing.
