Philip Schiller has now confirmed that Apple will be banning apps that have "objectionable content" which apparently now includes people in bathing suites, unless the content is "...previously published material available broadly in a well-accepted format." So, what you can now see on the beach in Waikiki or say, the Disney Channel, you cannot see on the iPhone ...unless it comes from Playboy.

I'm sorry, but this gets 4.5 ring tailed lemurs on the arbitrary BS scale. I understand parents wanting to control the content their young children access, but that is best handled by a clearly defined and consistently administered rating system along with plain old supervision. Apple making arbitrary shifts to their poorly articulated policies without warning is highly unfair to developers.

When cornered on this issue Schiller hides behind children, "We obviously care about developers, but in the end have to put the needs of the kids and parents first." ...unless it comes from SI or Playboy? Mr. Schiller - How about you care about both and strive for a modicum of consistency?

BTW - I don't think protecting children from bikinis qualifies as anything other than weird. Tell me, why don't we have an epidemic of traumatized children in Waikiki? How do those poor French and Japanese children survive?

Apparently they are having second thoughts.

"Just days after Apple removed over 5000 "overtly sexual" applications from the App Store, the company appears to have taken a curious turn that could result in the reinstatement of many of these applications."
