converted an old Duel-core Xeon Windows 2003 server into FreeBSD boxes!   Its now feels like a mainframe!  hahah

Hi everyone, just another system admin with all of my servers on FreeBSD and they have not failed for 15 years since it was installed and running.

oops, sorry to hear that VirtualBox doesn't fit the bill for you. Perhaps some of the others here have done something with vmware?

Virtualbox officially p*ssed me off for the last time about 2 weeks ago. I don't think it's production ready. It's changed a lot for the better since Sun took it over but... who knows...

I haven't had a chance to try it with vmware - is it supported?

I got *Free*BSD installed successfully on Sun's VirtualBox...? I understand that a lot of ppl have done the same with OpenBSD. If you're interested, here's a link to the list of supported OS's.

Has anyone tried openbsd on virtual machines? In my lab I just ended up using openvz with centos vm's - I like some of the linux tools better than bsd's. Just a thought.

Yes he does have an bit of an attitude but don't many UNIX folk? I think that the philosophy is a bit different than the Linux crowd where everything gets incorporated and many can write apps and drivers for..FBSD's philosophy is quite different where it has to go through the powers that be, first to be decided to be added. So because of that the delays and not always the leading edge on the new hardware. and yup not everything gets incorporated. But I think with PC-BSD's GUI this is will win a lot of people over to FBSD that's why I've been spending more time on that side of the effort.

Ahh, Jordan, that ornery prick. Smart as heck, but he turned off so many people with his attitude. Yet another reason why fans turned to Linux. FreeBSD at the time was much more mature and stable, so qualitatively a "better" unix. But they kept so many people out of the tent, and Linus was accepting patches from almost anywhere (he just didn't apply them all, that Linux blew right past FreeBSD and all the others.
