Ubiquity is very nice. They are currently working on localizing it and adding commands for different languages. http://vimeo.com/3390792
I agree it probably won't go mainstream but it certainly offers features that you wouldn't normally be able to do.

I definitely don't think the general public will go for the command-line interface, but that's right up my alley and you can probably just slap some sort of UI on top of those verbs.
