Comment by Jim Steele on November 21, 2012 at 7:45pm @Joe, thanks for showing us the books you will be using for the course and thanks for joining our LinkedIn group. You may want to bring up your list of books there.
@Dalton, thanks for joining our LinkedIn group.
@Shohei, @Michael, you can see that there has been diminishing activity here and there are only 19 members. If you are interested in Business Analysis, please consider joining our IIBA Hawaii Chapter group on LinkedIn, where there are 78 members.
Aloha,
Jim
Comment by Michael Cardenas on November 20, 2012 at 9:25am Hello all! My name is Michael Cardenas, I'm a student in the HPU system analysis course. I've also been working in the IT industry for over 12 years in many capacities and have some experience as a business analyst. I look forward to connecting with other business analysts here in Hawaii.

Comment by Sam Joseph on November 16, 2012 at 9:40pm Hi Jim, at the moment I'm coming more from the software engineering and agile development side of things. The three main textbooks at the moment are:
1) Engineering Long Lasting Software: http://beta.saasbook.info/
2) Code Complete: http://www.stevemcconnell.com/cc.htm
3) System Analysis and Design: http://www.amazon.com/Systems-Analysis-Design-Alan-Dennis/dp/111803...
I see the IIBA membership costs a little over $100 a year, so I'm tempted to maybe read the BABOK text first :-) Thanks for the tip about the breakfast roundtables. Actually I teach remotely from London in the UK, so perhaps I should look for a local IIBA chapter, but perhaps my Hawaiian students will be interested :-)

Comment by Jim Steele on November 16, 2012 at 11:29am Sam, how much will you use the BABOK (iiba.org) in your course? IIBA regularly emails tips if you would consider a membership.
You may also find useful the discussions in the IIBA group on LinkedIn.
Also, our breakfast roundtables are a good place to chat (hawaii.iiba.org).
Comment by Sam Joseph on November 16, 2012 at 6:26am Hiya, I'm teaching a systems analysis course at Hawaii Pacific University. What do you think are the top tips for up and coming systems analysts?
