Just noticed this thread :)

Growing up in Norway I collected a lot of classic Belgian and French comics like Gaston, Marsupilami, Spirou et Fantasio, Asterix, Lucky Luke, and The Adventures of Tintin. I had fairly complete collections of most of these comics, including quite a few rare first editions, which my parents have wellmeaningly passed along to younger cousins :-/
My favorite comic creator was Belgian Andre Franquin (originator of Gaston and Marsupilami, and long time contributor to Spirou et Fantasio).

I also read the American comics The Phantom, Mandrake the Magician (which may be the reason I am very susceptible to hypnosis ;), and the Dutch Silver Arrow.

As a young adult living in Italy I discovered Dylan Dog, an Italian horror comic series that often contained fairly surrealistic stories and drawings.
I also enjoyed Neil Gaiman's The Sandman series (love his books too), and Will Eisner's graphic novels.

As a kid growing up in Ukraine, was into Russian comics such as Nu Pogodi

Lost Episodes

Also was a big fan of The Neverending Story, with main hero Atreyu saving Fantasia from The Nothing :)

Lately have been mostly interested in
Island of The Lizard King
The Forest of DOOM
Appointment with F.E.A.R
Curse of the Mummy
Starship Traveller
which go over fighting lizards, enchanted forests, egyptian mummies and starship troopers.. :)

X-Men Wolverine is very cool, The Silver Surfer is pretty awesome..

Planet of the Apes, which sort of has an interesting story twist.

:) It's interesting how the dark side has a message to deliver, and how whatever does not kill us makes us stronger. One's fear is one's biggest enemy. Conquering that fear, the dark has no power, but it's existence is important to balance the equation of good & evil - hence the Neverending nature of The Story :)

Reminds me of a great quote, "He who makes a beast of himself gets rid of the pain of being a man"

Which makes me think that 'getting rid' of the pain of being a man is an easy way out. It is much more difficult to stand up to the full responsibility of being a Man. Hence Man has power over darkness.

Very true, facing our own mortality and accepting the fact that death is a something we must all face one day is something the western world is still in denial of.
