Session A is for companies that want to take the important step to go to the market and customers.  While the focus is on tech companies, companies that are at a similar crossroad are welcome to attend.

Session B is for researchers,  scientists and executives at universities and R&D companies who want to build a transition plan to take the technology to market.

A.  The Building Blocks of a Company’s Growth Strategy, 9 am to 11 am  (Sign in begins at 8:15 am).  A light breakfast will be served.

Both large companies as well as startup companies must continue to build value to grow.  In this session, speakers will discuss the “Building Blocks” to develop a Growth Strategy.  Topics include: how a solid strategy formulated, the competition, the customer, getting the product out the door.  This session also  includes an interview on “lessons learned” with a successful entrepreneur.

B.  Transitioning Technology into the Private Sector, 2 pm to 4 pm (Sign in begins at 1:30 pm).  Refreshments will be served.

Developing a great technology or the next big pharmaceutical is challenging and exhilarating.  The researcher/scientist is like an artist; they keep perfecting the work and hope the market will be attracted to it, but as Steve Jobs said even “An artist needs to ship”.  This session will define the basic tools needed to build a transition plan for taking the technology/product to the market, understanding the problem the product is solving for the market, and determine if the best channel for the product is a large established licensing partner or a startup company.

"Transitions & Growth" is led by Ms. Debra Beresini, an experienced manager, investor and entrepreneur. In 1997, she co-founded invencor, inc., based in the San Francisco Bay Area and has since served as its CEO.  invencor manages both debt and equity funds, provides mentoring and educational programs for venture and private equity investors,  consults with entrepreneurial management teams to grow companies and  works with lending institutions that focus on emerging growth companies. Beresini works with emerging growth companies across industries – healthcare, life science, and consumer – helping the management teams develop strategies to build sustainable companies. Her work with lending institutions includes structuring internal plans for risk mitigation policies and practices for lending to emerging growth companies.   She will be joined by HiBEAM directors, mentors, and entrepreneurs who have gone through the challenge of bringing their technology and companies to market.
