Crushing energy prices, food security issues, and lack of meaningful, well paying jobs plague Hawaii Island. TechConKona, a high impact, one-day conference is addressing these issues with ideas to solve them with top experts in the fields of sustainability and technology on Saturday November 2nd at the NELHA Gateway Center from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. A fundraising pau hana will follow from 4-6:30 pm.
Henk Rogers, Blue Planet Foundation
Sonny Bhagowalia, Hawaii's first Chief Information Officer
Chef James Babian, Chef, restaurateur, and Food Network participant
Amber Bieg, sustainability expert and green business consultant
Attendees will learn about how technology and sustainability intersect for business success and will focus on new systems, ideas, resources and information led by experts in the fields of food sustainability, digital marketing, Internet technology, and more.
The pau hana reception is being held in memory of Guy Toyama, who helped found the TechConKona last year. Guy, a local environmental and sustainability innovator, passed away last November and a memorial fund was set up in his name to fund scholarships for students in the fields of environmental sustainability. The pau hana will be a fundraiser for the Memorial Fund.
