Topic: Creative Pest and Disease Management for Tropical Crops
How can we best control pests that affect the myriad of tropical crops grown in Hawaii? Dr. Eric Jang will discuss research to find approaches that blend chemical, non-chemical, and even "natural" methods.
Dr. Jang has a BA in Zoology from UC Berkeley and a PhD in Entomology from UH Mānoa. He has 35 years of research experience in the area of entomology, primarily in the areas of insect physiology/biochemistry, postharvest entomology, insect chemical ecology and areawide management. With the Agricultural Research Service Dr. Jang has worked on postharvest disinfestation and chemical ecology of tephritid fruit flies and other pests.
This pau hana is BYOB/potluck, so please bring a pupu and beverage to share. Reusable plates and cups are encouraged, as is taking home your own trash.
