Event Description

Presenter:  Paul Ponthieux, CTO Blue Planet Research
Title: Hydrogen as a renewable fuel for Hawaii Island

Note: this is a field trip, and will not be at the normal location.

Hydrogen can be used as a fuel to power vehicles, homes, or even cook food.  It can also be used to store excess energy from solar, wind, or geothermal electricity generators.  Could it be part of the energy mix for Hawaii Island?  Blue Planet Research has been pioneering the real-world testing and integration of energy generation technologies from vendors worldwide, including photovoltaics, batteries, electrolyzers, and fuel cells.  Plans are in the works to erect hydrogen fueling stations around the island in anticipation of fuel cell vehicle availability.

Come tour the energy workshop at Pu`uwa`aw`a Ranch with Blue Planet Research CTO Paul Ponthieux.  We will see a vanadium-redox flow battery and a hydrogen generation, storage, and vehicle fueling system.  Enjoy drinks and pupus afterward, some cooked on a hydrogen grill.

This pau hana is BYOB/potluck, so please bring a pupu and beverage to share.  Reusable plates and cups are encouraged, as is taking home your own trash.

RSVP for directions and so we can plan for the number of people.

Agenda:
5:00-5:15 p.m. Networking
5:15-6:15 p.m. Presentation and Q&A
6:30-7:30 p.m. Pupus, drinks, and more networking

Agreed, the infrastructure should not be as much of a hurdle as for the mainland (good to have some of those situations occasionally).

They are hoping to have a few fueling stations to address the "egg" part of the problem.  Or is that the chicken?
