This event is a potluck pau hana for people involved or interested in technology in the greater Kona area and beyond. It is a small effort to network and build community. This month, Bill Bierman, owner of Omega Computer is Kona, will talk about some work he has been doing on navigation methods for artificial intelligence:
Navigation is one of the many fields in artificial intelligence where there is still much work to be done. For an agent to navigate wilst avoiding static objects such as walls, hills, doors as well as dynamic objects such as other agents, elevators, etc. is a problem that almost every practical exercise in AI will have to solve in some way. While there are many ways to do this, the navigation mesh is considered the most powerful. I will explain the basic concept of a navigation mesh, compare it to another method known as breadcrumb navigation, and explain some of the improvements that I am attempting to design and implement.
