HONOLULU, HI (July 25, 2011) – Na Hoku Hanohano Award winning group Na Palapalai will perform at Hawaii Kai Towne Center’s summer concert series “Sunset Serenade” on Saturday, August 13th. Admission is FREE to everyone.
“It’s been a summer of great concerts at Hawaii Kai Towne Center with Melveen Leed and Danny Couch performing to packed audiences in June and July,” said Carmen Magno, Hawaii Kai Towne Center general manager. “Na Palapalai is our final performance in the ‘Sunset Serenade’ series and we encourage the community to bring the whole family and enjoy the evening with wonderful music against a beautiful sunset.”
Na Palapalai will take The Waterfront Stage on Saturday, August 13th at 5:30 p.m. During the concert various Hawaii Kai Towne Center merchants will have stations set up in the breezeway near the stage featuring their services, merchandise, as well as food for purchase.
Formed in 1995, Na Palapalai is made up of three band members, Kuana Torres Kahele, Kehau Garo and Ioane Burns. Known for their original compositions and heavenly falsetto harmonies, the group embraces traditional Hawaiian music, bringing a raw energy and enthusiasm to each performance. ‘Makani ′Olu′olu,’ the group’s 2003 debut album, was applauded by critics and fans alike. The group followed with two more award winning releases: ‘Ke ′Ala Beauty’ and ‘Ka Pua Hae Hawai′i.’ All three albums have become veritable soundtracks for halau dancing hula worldwide.
Na Palapalai is the final group performing in a three-part concert series at the Hawaii Kai Towne Center on Saturday, August 13 at 5:30 p.m. Admission to the 7th Annual “Sunset Serenade” concert series is FREE TO EVERYONE.
