This workshop introduces the fundamentals of the programming language used to develop both iOS and OSX applications: Objective-C. First, foundational aspects of computer programming such as variables, loops, conditional processing and functions are introduced. Then, the Foundation Framework is explored before more advanced Objective-C fundamentals such as objects, memory management, categories and protocols are presented. Finally, a brief introduction to AppKit covers basic UI design concepts. Upon completion, students have an understanding of the programming language required to develop their own iPhone, iPad or OSX applications.
After graduating from UHM in Computer Science, Patrick Wardle went on to receive two Master's degrees from the Johns Hopkins University in the areas of Computer Science and Security Informatics. He initially worked for the US government in the field of computer security before helping start a computer security company and moving to Maui. While he spends his days working as a researcher for his company, his free time is consumed by everything Apple: his true passion. As a published iOS developer, he deeply understands Apple's native programming language (Objective-C), and what it takes to truly succeed in the Apple universe.
