Event Description

The Hawaii Geek Meet is a casual, friendly, open potluck gathering of geeks.  And we mean "geek" in a most inclusive, positive way. Do you like technology?  Do you have a specialty?  Among your friends or coworkers, are you the guru, the go-to person for things that blink or have moving parts?  Whether you're passionate about programming, photography, design, HAM radio, model rockets, painting, teaching... we want to meet you.

For specific and focused local groups, the Hawaii Geek Meet is a great excuse to see old friends and catch up on the latest tips and trends.  But at the same time, the idea of Hawaii Geek Meet is to mix and mingle with other brilliant people, people you might never meet in your own circles, but people with whom we'd bet you'd get along smashingly.

The Hawaii Geek Meet is also proudly a family affair! Geek dads, geek moms, geek kids, cousins, and toddlers are welcome.

Technology and the great outdoors! Geeks and the people who love them! Feed your appetite and your curiosity at this fourth annual event!

I had a great time at the Geek Meet!  Thanks to Ryan and all the groups that showed up.

If any one has any super strong magnets, I need one more to complete the gauss gun I'll be bringing tomorrow.  Of course, more are good too!

Thanks,

Ken

Nice, Marcus! Been following the coverage of the "Game of Thrones" series, and the brouhaha over the New York Times review that's ticking off a lot of "geek girls." Here's an updated link to your MSNBC piece.

The Hawaii Geek Meet is tomorrow! If you're bringing gear (exhibits, equipment, tent, etc.), your best bet is to come early. The "Run Like a Diva" folks say the Atkinson entrance will be accessible 7:30-8:00 a.m. and we'll be able to get to the Magic Island lot closest to the site.

Everyone else can just wander in whenever on a hopefully sunny, lazy Sunday. The park and streets should all open up again no later than 10 a.m.

See you there!

I thought this was a timely article, with the Geek Meet around the corner: Geek Girls Help Power Viewership for Sci-Fi TV. Nice to read about ladies representing!

@Ryan: I saw that write-up in today's newspaper too. I'm amazed at the diverse interests in attendance.

We look forward to it Ryan! Erika always does a great job of covering tech in Hawaii.

Geeks to meet and greet, talk and trade on Sunday

The Hawaii Geek Meet is what happens when diverse, technology-oriented groups combine, including the University of Hawaii Institute for Astronomy, the Emergency Amateur Radio Club and TechHui.com, sprinkled liberally with the LEGO Enthusiasts Association of Hawaii and the Pacific Outpost of the 501st Legion (you know, the Storm Troopers).

A totally unexpected, fun writeup in today's paper, and Erika did a great job squeezing in mention of as many groups as possible (including, of course, TechHui)!

No worries! Just come for as long as you can!

According to the city parks manager at Ala Moana, things should open up by 10 a.m. Those arriving to early to set up should use the Atkinson entrance and let the attendant know you're there to drop off gear for another permitted event. Call Ryan at 808-372-3372 if you need assistance!

Thanks to our permit wrangler, Helen, for staying on top of this!
