Event Description

This class runs from September 6, 2011 to December 16, 2011.

An introduction to the many types of computer game programming. This course reviews the programming and theory behind classic games such as Tetris and Space Invaders, genre creators such as SimCity and Civilization, as well as modern techniques behind sophisticated games such as Quake, Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption.  Students get hands-on experience creating 2D games in JavaScript/HTML5 and 3D games in systems such as the Unreal Engine. Course also briefly covers interactive narrative text adventures, mobile games and game Artificial Intelligence.


Course also includes opportunity to collaboration with designers from the Multimedia course "MULT3910: Game Design"


You can take this course even if not an HPU student: Cost is $990 plus one off $220 registration fee for non HPU students.

All the course textbooks are available online through the HPU Library service.

There is one required textbook:

Game Design Theory and Practice by Richard Rouse  III (2nd Edition).  Wordware Publshing.

And two optional textbooks:

Scripting Your World: The Official Guide to Second Life Scripting (Paperback) by Dana Moore et al. Sybex.

JavaScript: The Good Parts Unearthing the Excellence in JavaScript, by Douglas Crockford. O'Reilly Media:
