CREATING YOUR FIRST ANDROID APP with Jason Axelson

Mobile development is becoming an increasingly valuable skill which can allow you to remove any annoyances on your phone. One of the major advantages of the Android phone is that it is very easy to replace the built-in apps with your own (downloaded or built) apps allowing you to deeply customize your phone. This course walks you through building your first Android application, a simple tip calculator giving you the fundamentals needed to build your own apps. A programming background is assumed but prior experience with Android is not required, familiarity with Java and XML would be a plus.

Participants are expected to bring a portable computer having wireless network connectivity (any recent Mac, PC, or Linux system should work), with the Android SDK and Eclipse IDE with Android plugin installed. Step-by-step instructions for obtaining and installing the software (all free) and additional course details may be found at http://developer.android.com/sdk/installing.html. Participants having an Android phone or tablet can test directly on the device, but emulators can be used to test programs so having an Android device isn`t essential to profit from this course.

Jason Axelson is a software developer who works primarily in Java and computer security. He has released one app into the app store and worked on multiple other apps for various competitions.
