Event Description

10/23/2008

The fourth installment of the Hawaii Venture Capital Association luncheon series on renewable energy will delve into the topic of what makes a good venture capital investment opportunity. We have heard from renewable energy entrepreneurs with traction, policy makers and regulators and the non-profit approach to solving the energy crisis.

With Hawaii’s extreme reliance on foreign oil for electricity, renewable energy entrepreneurs are flocking to the challenge to help get Hawaii off of oil. With abundant wind, solar and ocean power at our doorstep, do these entrepreneurs have a business model that investors will fund? Find out at this important luncheon where we will hear from some of Hawaii’s top institutional and angel investors about what they look for in a renewable energy business investment opportunity. The panel will be led by Rob Robinson, Managing Partner of Kolohala Venture Fund, LLP. Kolohala manages Hawaii Angels investment fund, its own green fund and the State of Hawaii Hydrogen Fund. Also on the panel is Jeff Au, Managing Partner of PacifiCap one of Hawaii's larger venture funds.

“Hawaii entrepreneurs who want to tackle the renewable energy challenge need to be prepared with a comprehensive understanding of what investors are looking for,” said Bill Spencer, President of the Hawaii Venture Capital Association. “There is a lot of deal flow in this important area, but many of these pioneering entrepreneurs need to understand that there is more to getting funding than interesting technology.”

The Hawaii Venture Capital Association, founded in 1988, is one of Hawaii’s oldest private non-profit economic development organizations devoted to entrepreneurship and capital formation.
