It is interesting, how Vatican decided to open up their selected library archives to the online community. It is also interesting that IBM was their choice of technology company that is going to do the scanning, likely due to IBM's maturity level.

Vatical Library, quote: 'is one of the oldest in the world and contains one of the most significant collections of historical texts'.

I don't know much on the subject, but don't they also contain a large number of scientific and mathematical works that date back to Euclid and Archimedes, that were generally inaccessible for quite a long time?
