yea, this talk is awesome. it inspired me for a little while to dream up wild ideas on my blog. but, other than that, what else can i do to address this problem?

Robinson is spot on. This is bad in the US and worse in Japan. We do our best to squash creative thinking starting in grade school.

I love the story about the 6yo drawing God. Teacher: "What are you drawing?", 6yo: "God", Teacher: "But nobody knows what God looks like.", 6yo: "They will in a minute." ROFL.
