Hawaiʻi's Technology Community

I've always had great respect for Bruce, both as a technologist and a business man. He built
Inovaware from a piece of billing software he wrote for a local ISP into a leading provider of billing and CRM applications with customers from New York to Tokyo. Now Inovaware is pushing the boundaries again with cutting edge SaaS Flex applications built on Bruce's new
FlowUI framework.

Bruce is a programmer-at-heart who was born and raised in Honolulu and got his BS and MS in Computer Science from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. He started his affinity with computers at 13 writing small games on a programmable HP-41C calculator before moving onto an Apple IIe, the mainframes at UH, IBM PCs, Macintoshes, and a hodge podge of other systems all the way up to the present. After a short stint at a computer consulting company in Honolulu, Bruce went off on his own to do consulting, create the largest pre-Internet chat service in Hawaii, and finally start Inovaware, an Internet billing and customer management software company, at the end of 1996. In addition to technology, Bruce enjoys traveling, surfing, and experiencing all the large and small things that are amazing in the world with Carrole, his fiancé, who he met while trekking in Nepal.

As an early entrant into the Internet boom, Inovaware has provided the billing infrastructure for a number of leading Internet companies including Salesforce.com, Morningstar, EMC, NTT, and j2 Communications. Since then, Inovaware has expanded its line of business to offer a complete suite of outsourced services, including software development, backend business processes, and call center services. One of Inovaware’s key initiatives right now is the transition from a software product company to a Software as a Service (SaaS) company. To support this initiative, Inovaware has developed and released FlowUI, an open source development framework for creating Rich Internet enterprise mashup applications in Adobe Flex. As software makes its paradigm shift toward services, there will be a growing need for efficiently building user interfaces for enterprise systems that “mashup” or combine data and services from multiple sources. FlowUI targets this need and Inovaware is actively looking for talented people to join the project.
