Tim I don't think it's as complicated as people are making it out to be :) 1) handle http requests / response 2) generate html / json as responses 3) clean data api 1) is pretty well handled by MochiWeb 2) there are some good html generators in er…

I too love scheme and work up early to hack on some gambit termite utility to update all my source projects in parallel :)

Nate - I just added a clojure group - probably it is overboard but it focuses the conversation around a language if there are questions. I dabble in elisp, scheme, clojure and erlang all day long myself. Elisp and Clojure are my work languages and s…

I always felt that the repurposing of records for nitrogen views was... pretty gross. Something like Haskell's combinator approach would appeal more to me.

Can you give some examples of what it means to write programs in a pure functional style in procedural or OO languages? Do you just mean that you focus on creating immutable data structures? And stateless objects?

1/2 of my team had never programmed on the jvm before and half did (including myself). I chose them all for different reasons/skills. None of them are having any trouble with the jvm part because of those of us on the team with jvm experience. It's…

I have used the LFE scheme syntax to program Erlang. :) I have used scsh, gambit, guile & plt on emacs for fun but not "real world". I wish there was a Slime/Swank environment for Scheme. There is Quack and Geiser for Emacs. I haven't gotten either…

I'm in the same boat regarding Java. I have done some small contracts in Java before, but I've never gotten way into it. The JVM is really attractive, though. There are a ton of good libraries/the API is huge and the threads are "real" (i.e. you can…

My problems with Clojure stem only from the environment in which it runs. Somehow in my career I've managed to completely avoid the whole Java/JVM mess and I've taken that for granted. Now whenever I try to use tools like... Clojure or Scala or any…

I think the real problem is the historical lack of standard libraries for Scheme. Various Schemes have had decent (but never really great) libraries, I think. Now, evidently there's a standard library in R6RS, but it's probably too little, too late.…

I love scheme and have used it for many projects on the more educational side of things, but I've never really found any materials discussing it's use in more "real world" scenarios. Does anyone know of any resources for using scheme in say... web p…

Rad, yeah I was thinking about starting a Haskell and a Factor or a J group and I started to realize that maybe all of that was going overboard. I've done a whole lot of nothing with scheme (lots of books and school) but never managed to get around…

Welcome Anders! We just added Erlang to the list of languages in the profile questions. :-)

The FAQ is a good place to learn about the site. You may want to join some of the interest groups such as Rails Hackers and Python.

We hope you find TechHui useful and invite others. Happy coding!
