Phelsuma lineata lineata

Madagascar has over 300 species of reptiles. The day geckos you see around Hawaii including the beautiful gold dust day gecko (Phelsuma laticauda laticauda) are from Madagascar. They are a relatively new introduction but Hawaii has had geckos for over 1,000 years. They were most likely stowaways on canoes. Geckos also spread between islands by laying their eggs in driftwood. Their eggs remain viable in saltwater.
