About Me:
My professional experiences run the gamut in technology. While my educational background started in biomedical engineering, I started my professional career in application development and software design with a focus in health care. That shifted to management of a small programming department, a jump into broadcast technology and most recently as the application development lead for the leading HR/payroll outsourcing company.

Starting a new role at Oceanic Time Warner Cable in developing their on-demand platform and finding ways to integrate web technologies into their distribution model. Looking forward to developing a new channels and online platforms to hopefully inspire and educate the community.

And on the side, I've been playing around with government data sets writing code to pull available data into databases and building APIs and websites from them. The main project is a mashup of Campaign Spending Commission, Ethics Commission and Office of Elections data into https://brchawaii.com/influence. Ultimately the goal is to push for more transparency in government and showing what open data initiatives can do for the the community.

Burt Lum, Ryan Ozawa and I have recently started a non-profit called Hawaii Open Data to push these open data initiatives forward. We are currently working with the City & County of Honolulu and the State of Hawaii to develop not only the technological infrastructure, but more importantly community adoption.

Welcome Jared! I was a music composition major at USC. Shawn Drost is also a Trojan.

Your position at KGMB9 sounds very interesting. I hope to see you in the groups and forums.

Hello Jared! Thank for the add! Yes, we will be local... You and Patrick (our Director of Business Development) should meet up and chat. I'm going to be in Honolulu sometime at the end of December
  • Keith Rollman

Thanks, it will be an interesting test of the new law. It's not easy to pin this kind of thing down...doesn't mean that you should try though.
  • Gordon Hee

Yep, long time - how have you been?
  • Sandi Kanemori

You might be right Jared... maybe if you put up a more accurate pic of yourself I might be able to remember you as well!

"I've been in a variety of IT positions (from healthcare to academia), but have always wanted to NOT be the IT guy"

I know how you feel. It seems like a label that can limit potential. I want people to know that I'm capable of so much more then fixing their e-mail or syncing their iPod. :)
  • Kevin Lohman

Heh, I've got the same problem as Sandi... can't remember you from your picture unless you happen to look like a Diet Coke machine :)
  • Kevin Lohman

Sounds good Jared, I'm free tomorrow (Friday) and all next week.
