iPhone is Windows
Android is the rest of the market


Do you want to make money, or have a hackable phone?

If the former, iPhone, else, get an Android phone.

(Having lived with an unlocked G1 in Europe for the Summer, I can tell you that the Android stack isn't all that great... yet.

He he, good analogy :) What about things like BlackBerry and Windows Mobile?

Luckily there are other way to make money, but I certainly hear what you are saying. However, having a hackable phone could prove to be a pretty good investment, considering fast paced evolution of mobile devices..

This is precisely why I think right now is a great time to get into it :)

It is interesting how it resembles the iPhone look.. Apple did a pretty good job on iPhone's design :)

I also like this one from Motorola... It is also for TMobile. And yes, it is a good time to catch this wave while it is at the beginning of its swell.

Just came from T-Mobile store, and agree with Eugene.. This new phone from Motorola is probably one of better (available) alternatives. This phone, in combination with Android, makes a powerful mobile player, sporting a number of useful features, namely:
- social networking integration
- multi-tasking support
- seamless contact syncing
- native Google services support
- custom desktop support (backgrounds, widgets, etc..)
- and finally has a phone jack :)

Coming from an iPhone world,
- no more need for iTunes
- no more 'one program running at a time'
- no more 'just icons' on my phone desktop

all of which are a pretty big deal.. Social networking integration on the new phone is seamless.. No more separate apps for facebook, myspace, twitter, etc.. all are in one integrated, interactive feed of information..

Windows Mobile is too small to matter, and I think the BlackBerry will be a historic note soon enough.

Expensive lighters.. especially with a 2 year contract :) and it is not really about the phone, but the ability to program for it using open standards. So far the choices for android phones are not that impressive, will likely be waiting for better alternatives..
