My first post on this great site, hope it goes well.

I moved here from the mainland a couple of months ago and I've been looking to get involved with a LUG.  Unfortunately I haven't really seen anything that fits the bill, so I guess if I can't find one I'll see if I can get it going again if there is any interest.

I have been using Linux since 1999 and over the years I trampled and recovered on most aspects of the system, at least enough to feel somewhat competent to talk about it.  So if anyone is willing to attend, I'll be happy to set up a talk on any of the following subjects, highest vote wins.

Beowulf Clusters

  - My experience for this was design and implementation of two Beowulf Clusters one at Georgia Southern University (16 node diskless) and the other at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (129 node w/disk).

Diskless/Netbooting (separate or included under Beowulf Clustering)

  - Recently implemented this for personal use for OS development in order to maximize productivity while minimizing power consumption and space.

Embedded Linux (design and creation)

  - Lead Project Developer for two years (wow, didn't seem that long) for the Neuvoo project which is a redesign of Gentoo Linux for the embedded processor environment namely the ARMv7a Cortex-A8 core which is similar for the some of the most popular embedded devices such as the iPhone 3GS/4, Motorola Droid, iPad, etc.

I'd be interested in some of the subjects you mentioned, especially embedded issues.  I've been working with Linux since 1998, always one rack-mountable Linux servers and appliances.

Thanks, I probably should have specified.  I live on Oahu, specifically North Shore/Waialua.  I would assume most people on Oahu would like to meet in Honolulu/Waikiki.

Oops.  Sorry, but I'm on Maui.  That'd make it hard to attend.  Best of luck.

Thanks, once I figure out the format of my presentation I'll see about posting it.

I'd be interested. I've been a *nix sysadmin of various descriptions for a number of years now, though mostly focussed on Linux/freebsd/solaris in a web oriented environment.

Great.  I'll tack up a vote for embedded systems.  I'll probably do a brief overview of embedded systems specs and common packages and then go from there to how you can mitigate some of the restrictions compared to a PC-based OS.  I'm not yet sure of how technical the audience will be, but I'll try and make it enjoyable for everyone.
