Need to help a friend of mine with his continuous computer problems.

So, as most of us have gone through, I have a friend that I act as tech support for. He refuses to use Windows because of fear of viruses (and he engages in a lot of "virus-attracting" behavior such as visiting shady sites, letting anyone use his computer, and so on). He's poor and can't afford a Mac, which would otherwise be an ideal computer for him, since he has neither knowledge of computers nor any interest in learning about computers. I've tried to help him with installing Linux, in fact, I've spent a great many hours doing this for him, but his equipment was either completely incompatible or simply very old with intermittently failing hardware, and not worth supporting.

I'm willing to help him out here because he has helped out my family fairly often with household repair and maintenance.

So, I've decided to offer a trade on Tech Hui if anyone has a good machine, preferably a laptop, which is reasonably (5 years old or younger) old, works well with Linux, and is willing to trade it with us for stuff or services. There is no need to install Linux on it, but I must have the opportunity to test it with a USB bootable Linux installation.

What I can offer -- some combination of:

A small ($100 or less) amount of money

Retro equipment (3 Amigas, an original XBox and an original Game Cube with many games)

An exercise bike (originally $300) which works well.

I am a trained (CELTA) ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher and am willing to offer English lessons. I can also offer computer lessons.
