We have an immediate need for an experienced Web Developer to join our growing Web Design and Technology Tools team.  We are seeking qualified candidates interested in regular, full-time employment primarily in Honolulu, HI, or Berkeley, CA.  No relocation assistance is available. In the Web Developer position, you will participate in the design, development and maintenance of our web-based products and tools that involve high standards, challenging problems and robust technology solutions. We are looking for dynamic individuals who value a collaborative approach and who are willing to hit the ground running. This position requires very strong communication skills. The ideal candidate will have 1-3 years of professional experience in web development as well as possess the minimum qualifications listed below. We welcome candidates with non-technical degrees.

Typical Responsibilities include:

  • Working closely with the Associate Program Director and creative and technical staff to design efficient solutions for front-end software feature requests that ensure optimal functionality and usability;
  • Assisting the Associate Program Director in maintaining schedules and tracking work requests;
  • Turning conceptual designs into coded layouts using clean, standards-compliant code, and accessibility best practices;
  • Communicating client requests and development tasks and priorities to technical staff;
  • Monitoring project schedules and ensuring that project milestones are met;
  • Performing functionality, and quality assurance and control testing for a wide range of web-based projects;
  • Ensuring cross-browser compatibility by testing work against multiple browsers to guarantee designs are pixel-perfect; and
  • Regularly updating and maintaining client websites.

Minimum qualifications include:

  • At least 1-3 years professional experience in web development plus a bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of relevant experience and college level coursework;
  • Solid experience with HTML, CSS and JavaScript;
  • Good understanding of common user interface design patterns and usability heuristics;
  • Experience handling cross-browser compatibility and coding for Firefox, Safari, and IE6 - IE9;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills (with ability to translate technical concepts) ;
  • Keen attention to detail;
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with ability to multi-task in a fast-paced and fluid environment while effectively meeting deadlines;
  • High level of motivation with proven ability to take initiative, troubleshoot and creatively problem solve;
  • Enthusiasm to learn with demonstrated ability to seek and develop skills and knowledge around unfamiliar content and technologies;
  • Experience working effectively with remote teams and working independently with minimal supervision;
  • Able to work during regular business hours, M-F; and
  • Valid long-term authorization to work in the United States.
