The candidate must have a bachelor’s degree in computer science or information technology.

Successful candidate will have a background in:
- PostgresSQL scripting,
- Linux server administration/security
- Database design and management
- Scientific programming
- Gnuplot scripting
- Also beneficial would be: proficiency in Matlab or SPSS.

A successful candidate will have good people skills; ability to communicate well in writing and verbally; be organized and have attention to detail; ability to document server setup and database design; be trustworthy and responsible; able to work independently as well as with others; follow directions and meet deadlines.

Narrative of Duties:*

This position is to work with staff from Sea Grant and the Hawaii Natural Energy Institute (HNEI). HNEI is managing a pilot scale smart grid project in Maui. More information on the project can be found at http://sbcd.seagrant.soest.hawaii.edu/ka-pili-kai-summer-2012 on page 14. The Energy Project IT Assistant position will work with the project team gathering energy and voltage information for a Maui smart grid project. The assistant would be responsible for setting up the server and security, setting up the database, upload data to the database, manage data and assist faculty and staff to perform analysis of energy use and grid conditions. After initial setup and organization, it may be possible to perform some of the work from a remote location, but the candidate must live on Oahu and be able to work on campus at any time. Although this is a part-time and temporary position, there is potential for further employment on the project beyond this initial period.
