MORE: Honolulu, Hawaii, May 3, 2010 - Burgers On The Edge is celebrating National Hamburger Month with the 2nd annual “Burger Genius” contest. The Kapahulu eatery is searching for the next signature favorite from burger lovers everywhere.
An aspiring Burger Genius must name their creation and provide a recipe for their masterpiece inone of three categories: Beef (Ground Chuck or Wagyu), Turkey, and Veggie. They may choose from the nine cheeses, 16 sauces, and 20 toppings currently offered on the menu or think outside of our burger wrapper.
The contest runs through May 31 and six finalists will be entered into a sales contest. The six winning entries (two contenders per category) go burger to burger with the winner being decided by the highest sales in the month of June. One winner in each category will be announced on July 7, the anniversary week of Burgers On The Edge, on KHON-FOX at 9pm on the Burger Genius TV show.
In addition to bragging rights and credit for a spot on the menu, the thee winning contestants (Beef, Turkey, and Veggie Burger) will receive $200 cash and burgers for a year (one burger a week for an entire year).
Burgerphiles may enter online at www.BurgersOnTheEdge.com or by visiting the restaurant at 888 Kapahulu Avenue in the Safeway Center. If contestants want to add to the hype, they can enter a video submission too!
A portion of the proceeds from sales of the six burgers will benefit the Hawaii Foodbank.
Please bring canned goods for the Hawaii Foodbank to the restaurant during this month, whether you enter the contest or not. The Top Five Most Needed Foods are:
§ Canned meats & tuna
§ Canned spaghetti, chili and corned beef hash
§ Canned soups
§ Canned vegetables
§ Canned fruits
Monetary donations will also be accepted. Your $10 donation enables the Hawaii Foodbank to distribute food for 25 meals.

The Hawaii Foodbank is the only nonprofit 501(c)(3) agency on Oahu that collects, warehouses and distributes mass quantities of both perishable and non-perishable food to help feed Hawaii’s hungry. Donated and purchased foods are distributed to over 250 charities on Oahu. Last year the Hawaii Foodbank distributed 10 million pounds of food, including 2 million pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables to those requiring emergency food assistance in Hawaii.
